how to make cholar dal / bengali style Gram/ chana dal recipe

cholar dal/ Bengal gram  is one of the common foods for Bengali people. Almost everyday they like to eat it in dinner and launch.
Cholar Dal / Bengal gram lentils cooked in coconut and spices. Slightly sweet in flavor

Ingredients:


  2 tablespoons sliced Fresh Coconut

  1 tsp garam masala powder( Blend 1 tsp Coriander Seeds, 4 Cloves, 1 Cinnamon, 2 cardamom, Little Shaw cumin seed and 4 Black Pepper into Powder)

  1 tsp coriander powder

  1/2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds

  3 bay leaves

  2 - 4 tsp sugar

  salt to taste

  1 tblsp raisins

Cooking procedure:

Soaked for 1 hrs in hot water.

Cook the dal with the turmeric,tomato salt, sugar and water in the pressure cooker for 10 minutes. Keep aside.

 Take clarified butter/ghee in a pan. In the same ghee add bay leaves, dry red chillies, whole cumin seeds and wait till the cumin seeds crackle.


When it stops spluttering mix in it to the dal.
Mix thoroughly.

Cut the coconut into small dices and fry in ghee till light brown.
Mix in this to the dal and stir.

 Add Garam masala, Add salt as per requirement. Keep on high flame for a couple of minutes .


Serve hot along with luchi.
